2 drivers killed when pickup going wrong way on I-94 crashes head-on into car

Deputies found 1 vehicle engulfed in flames

ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Mich. – Two drivers were killed in a fiery crash early Monday morning as a pickup truck going the wrong way on I-94 struck a car head-on.

The crash happened around 12:30 a.m. Monday, June 17, 2024, in the eastbound lanes of I-94 near Fred Moore Highway in St. Clair County.

Officials said a silver 1999 Chevrolet Silverado pickup was heading west in the eastbound lanes when it crashed into a black 2018 Chevrolet Cruze in front of a rest area.

When St. Clair County deputies arrived, one of the vehicles was fully engulfed in flames, they said.

Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. There were no passengers.

I-94 was shut down for an investigation, but it has since reopened.

Police continue to investigate the crash.
