Residents begin returning home after water main break floods Detroit neighborhood
Residents of a Southwest Detroit neighborhood are gradually returning home after a water main rupture displaced them nearly a month ago. Although 100 families are still in hotels, 30 are preparing to move back. The recovery includes claims processing for 89 damaged cars and numerous personal items, with a turnaround time of 45 days. Of 400 impacted homes, 200 had flooded basements, damaging hot water heaters and furnaces, with 60 heaters and half of the 110 furnaces already replaced. Nearly $2 million has been spent so far, with total costs expected between $8 and $10 million to fully restore the affected families.
