Michigan lawmakers push for hyperbaric chamber regulations following fatal explosion
Two Michigan lawmakers are advocating for the licensing and regulation of hyperbaric oxygen chambers following the death of five-year-old Thomas Cooper in an explosion at the Oxford Center in Troy. Currently, Michigan lacks oversight for these chambers, prompting State Senator Stephanie Chang to propose legislation that would require accreditation by the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society. The legislation aims to ensure expert evaluations of facilities, as the Oxford Center’s founder and employees face serious charges related to the incident.
