SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – April is National Donate Life Month. In Southfield, volunteers joined forces to create heartfelt comfort blankets. These blankets are given to new organ donor families during their most difficult moments.
The Michigan Donor Family Council provides the blankets to the donor families at the time of their loss.
Local 4 photojournalist Richard Estrada attended a recent comfort blanket-making party in Southfield to find out how valuable these blankets can be to donor families.
Comfort blankets are close to our hearts as well. In April 2024, Local 4 hosted our own comfort blanket event as part of our Go 4 It campaign. With the help from our amazing viewers, we made 322 comfort blankets -- a record for the Michigan Donor Family Council.
