Every February, Detroit commemorates the life and legacy of the renowned hip-hop producer J Dilla with a weekend full of events. Various activities will take place throughout Metro Detroit in his honor. Ma Dukes Official, Dilla World 313, Raise the Flag Detroit, and several local Detroit venues and organizations will collaborate to host community events from Friday to Monday.

The Oz Escape: A Wicked Glitch in Detroit

Sour Mama Grand Opening

Saturday, March 1st from 10am-2pm

Sour Mama

A new bakery is opening in Wyandotte this weekend, and it’s not just any bakery—it’s a sourdough bakery! Sour Mama will be hosting it’s grand opening this Saturday from 10 AM to 2 PM. They will offer a variety of items, including bread, bagels, focaccia, and delicious sourdough-leavened products. Plus, the first 12 customers will receive free goodie bags!

72nd Detroit Autorama

February 28th - March 2nd

The Detroit Autorama is back! Over 800 custom cars, trucks, and motorcycles will be featured! Barbie’s pink Cadillac convertible, a Mega Morph Giant Transforming Robot Car, a 1941 Buick Special linked to Pearl Harbor, and so much more will be included at this year’s show. Get ready for a fantastic time at the 72nd Annual Detroit Autorama!

Variety Show Fundraiser for SW Detroit

Saturday, March 1st from 8pm - 10pm

Ant Hall

The Independent Comedy Club and Planet Ant are joining forces for a great cause and a fun evening! This Saturday, come to Planet Ant for a night filled with stand-up comedy, music, improv, and poetry to help raise funds for those affected by the floods in Southwest Detroit. All proceeds will go directly to support those impacted. Additionally, guests are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items, diapers, winter clothing (for all ages), blankets, and pet food to donate at the event.

August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom

January 10th - March 2nd

In a rundown Chicago recording studio in 1927, tensions flare as Ma Rainey, the “Mother of the Blues” and her band record jazz and blues standards. Ma Rainey fiercely defends her music, while her cocky trumpet player Levee dreams of making his own fame. August Wilson’s powerful work explores themes of rage, racism, self-hatred, and exploitation beyond the music. You can see ‘August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’ at the Detroit Repertory Theatre now through March 2nd.

Go Comedy! Improv Theater

Help raise money for the Detroit Creativity Project with a fun evening of comedy, community and creativity at Go Comedy! Improv Theater next Tuesday! The Detroit Creativity Project is an organization that brings improv performing classes to Detroit Public Schools to help students expand their imaginations, develop critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and build confidence. Enjoy performances from Astrid Questher, Ashley Calhoun, Alice Duhon, Kim Turner, Lauren Noelle, and Tam White. There will be a variety of vendors and a silent auction too.
