DETROIT – What is the future of Michigan Central Station?
Labor Day Weekend marked the end of public tours for now, but who is moving in? And will there be more tours?
It was the party of the summer and the transformation of the decade -- Michigan Central Station returned to its iconic status in Corktown after being restored by Ford. Since the reopening party in June, tours of the building have been sold out. It’s a popular attraction for those interested in the old becoming new again.
Starting in the fall, some Ford employees will move into the first few floors. Google is already inside and a coffee shop will be announced in the week or so.
There’s also going to be a public event and meeting space, public art space and a hotel on the top floors.
The building will remain open to the public and tours will resume -- they’re just not sure what they will look like.
