Vice President Kamala Harris rallies support for democracy in Michigan ahead of 60th birthday

Before Harris began her remarks, the crowd sang Happy Birthday

OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – Vice President Kamala Harris energized suburban voters in Oakland County Friday evening.

Harris held a rally at the Oakland Expo Center in Waterford Township.

“So, Michigan, today I ask you, ‘Are you ready to make your voices heard? Do you believe in freedom,’” Harris said.

Friday, Oct. 18, 2024, marked the third stop of the day for Harris in Michigan.

Senator Debbie Stabenow was by her side.

“Kamala Harris is not taking anybody for granted, and that’s what I love about her,” Stabenow said. “She said in the beginning she was going to earn every vote. That’s what she’s doing. That’s why she’s coming back to Michigan over and over again.”

Harris supporters at the rally shared why they’re supporting her campaign.

“Number one, democracy. Democracy. That’s what she represents,” attendee Bob Zuchowicz said.

Voters also spoke to what Harris needs to do to seal the deal with undecided voters in Michigan.

“With the folks in Michigan, I think she needs to talk to the Arab Americans,” attendee Usha Bhatt said. “I think that is going to be our downfall in Michigan. She needs to convince them that she could do a better job with the whole Gaza-Israel situation.”

Before Harris began her remarks, the crowd sang Happy Birthday.

Harris will turn 60 on Sunday.
