OTSEGO COUNTY, Mich. – A Michigan man has been charged again for hunting-related violations in Otsego County.
Cecil Edward Day, 59, of Johannesburg, was arraigned on Nov. 19, on the charges of possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of ammunition by a felon, possession of a firearm with a blood alcohol content over .08% and no hunter’s orange.
The Michigan Department of Resources says that Day was arrested on Nov. 18 after conservation officers received a tip that included proof of Day getting out of a vehicle and shooting a deer on private property with a rifle.
After further investigation and interviews, conservation officers discovered two more deer that had been shot and left in that same area. One of the deer was a nine-point trophy buck, according to the DNR.
The DNR is also seeking more deer poaching charges for Day, who has a history of hunting-relating violations.
His previous DNR convictions, from 2018-2020, include possession of a firearm by a felon, taking deer from a motor vehicle, trespassing, no hunter’s orange and possession of an untagged deer.
The 59-year-old is lodged at the Otsego County Jail as he awaits his preliminary hearing.
