Quiet weather ensures safe holiday travel mid-week in Michigan

Wednesday, Thursday highs in lower 40s

Metro Detroit weather forecast Nov. 26, 2024 -- 4 p.m. Update (WDIV)

4Warn Weather – Quiet weather will make travel through Wednesday evening uneventful here in Southeast Lower Michigan.

Aside from chilly temps and a bit of wind, we are looking high and dry until at least Wednesday night.

Then, as of Tuesday, we will carefully monitor an area of low pressure that looks to keep a good deal of the rain/snow mix to our south through Thanksgiving morning.

The track of the system will likely mean some areas will see a coating of snow, and others might not see anything.

If you live in Lenawee and Monroe counties, you have the best chance of picking up a half-inch or so of snow, possibly mixed with a little light rain.

Thanksgiving

At this point it does not look like enough to cause any travel problems although even a trace of snow can cause slippery conditions.

Downtown Detroit may experience a few flurries between 4 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning, but nothing should stop you from attending the parade.

The parade will likely start out dry and cloudy, with temps in the low to mid-30s.

By the end of the parade, around noon, it will be dry with temps in the upper 30s.

The best news for parade goers this year is that the winds will be around 5-10mph.

That means wind chills will not be a major factor, and those huge balloons will be easily controlled along the parade route.

Friday

The only issue for travel will be Thanksgiving evening into Friday morning. Numerous lake-enhanced snow showers will develop and possibly start banding around 1-94.

There could be a few heavier squalls that may make roads slippery and visibility quite low.

The 4Warn weather team is monitoring several chances for snow showers and cold temperatures from Friday through early next week.
