4Warn Weather – Here we snow again!
It’s a very similar setup to last Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
Wednesday
The lake effect snow machine kicks back on Wednesday, mainly in the evening and overnight hours. Snow squalls are possible, and visibility will likely be reduced.
Thursday
Although we aren’t expecting huge accumulations, our morning commute on Thursday will depend heavily on road crews' ability to salt the roads and the effectiveness of the salt, given our temperatures being below 18 degrees.
Latest snow timeline for Metro Detroit
Snow showers with the potential for a few snow squalls are possible between 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Wednesday. Snow squalls are brief bursts of heavy snow that could happen anywhere in Southeast lower Michigan in this timeframe.
The most likely place is between 1-69 to 1-94. However, keep in mind these areas of heavy snow and reduced visibility can be very short in duration and cannot be tracked until they show up on radar.
All of Metro Detroit will need to monitor the 4Warn Weather App to see where those squalls are located especially Wednesday evening.
Between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m. there is still the possibility of a few snow showers and squall although most will be winding down by the morning commute.
Temperatures will fall, and winds will pick up overnight, gusting to 35-40mph at times.
Windchills will be at or near zero. Salt will not be as effective, which means the morning commute on Thursday will be heavily dependent on road crews.
Total accumulation is anywhere from a trace to 2” with a few isolated locations receiving 3-4” if they are in one of those snow squalls.
A 4 Warn Weather Alert is in effect for Wednesday evening into Thursday morning.
