3 cars catch fire in crash on I-696 in Farmington Hills

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – A crash on I-696 in Farmington Hills caused three vehicles to catch fire Tuesday morning, officials said.

At about 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 7, fire officials responded to I-696 near I-275 after receiving a report of a vehicle fire.

Eastbound I-696 was closed in the morning on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2025 after three cars caught fire after a crash. Cleanup is underway, and as of 8:45 a.m., one lane is open to traffic. (City of Farmington Hills)

When they arrived, they discovered a three-vehicle crash, with all three vehicles on fire.

No one was injured, according to city officials. Eastbound I-696 was closed so the fire could be extinguished.

“Please use this as a reminder to slow down and move over for any emergency vehicles working on the roadway,” city officials said.
