Non-Profit delivers hot meals, survival supplies to homeless with mobile outreach in Metro Detroit

ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. – The Motor City Mitten Mission is working around the clock during these frigid temperatures across Metro Detroit.

“It’s a difficult situation right now,” founder Gail Marlow said.

Marlow and her team have been working to get those without a home off the street and into a shelter.

For those who refuse shelter, they offer a hot meal and survival supplies like blankets, hand warmers, boots, and other essential items in Macomb County.

“It’s pretty much everything and anything that anybody would need to have to survive on the street while it’s cold,” Marlow said.

Chef Mike Janiga carefully considers the best foods to serve when it comes to preparing hot meals.

“It’s very cold outside, so we want to make sure they have a good protein (and) that there’s a lot of fat in your product,” Janiga said. “Because when it’s that cold outside, you’re burning calories and energy twenty times the rate as if it were hot outside.”

If you see someone in need of the mission’s services, call the Motor City Mitten Mission Outreach hotline at 586-563-7070.

The mission is also looking for donations and volunteers. Click here for more information.
