MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – A suspect wanted in connection to shooting and killing a man at a Sterling Heights hotel has been taken into custody, police said.

At 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, police responded to the Extended Stay America Select Suites hotel at 33400 Van Dyke Avenue after receiving a 911 call regarding a shooting.

When they arrived at the hotel, they found a man dead with a gunshot wound.

The suspect had already left the hotel, but police gathered information at the scene, identified the suspect and began investigating.

Police say the investigation led them to a home in the 8400 block of State Park Street in Center Line.

They set up a perimeter at the home with the assistance of the Center Line and Warren police departments as the suspect barricaded himself inside the house.

After hours of negotiating, authorities convinced the suspect to put down his gun and exit the house, and he was taken into custody.

“The joint effort between police departments and the outstanding job by the Sterling Heights Patrol Officers, Detectives, Special Response Team and Crisis Negotiation Team led to the capture of a homicide suspect within 12 hours of the tragic incident,” said police.

The investigation is ongoing and police say charges are expected within the next few days. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sterling Heights Police Department Investigations Bureau at 586-446-2825.
