Dearborn police arrest man involved in fatal overdose linked to illegal drug transaction

A probable cause conference is set for Feb. 12

The Dearborn Police Department announced the arrest of a felony charge filed against Anthony Earl Moore, 59, of Ypsilanti, who was in an illegal drug transaction that is suspected to have led to a fatal overdose of a Dearborn resident in 2024.

Moore was arraigned at the 19th District Court on one felony charge of delivery of a controlled substance causing death and was issued a $500,000 bond with GPS Tether.

A probable cause conference is set for Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2025.

The incident occurred on Jan. 30, 2024, when Dearborn emergency personnel responded to reports of an unresponsive man on Venice Street. The man was declared deceased at the scene.

Further investigation by the Dearborn Police Department revealed drug paraphernalia at the scene, as well as the presence of a controlled substance.

A subsequent Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office report confirmed the victim had experienced an accidental overdose caused by cocaine and fentanyl toxicity.

Dearborn police investigators utilized cell phone data, GPS, surveillance footage, and numerous other tools to identify Moore as the source of the illicit substance.

On Feb. 3, 2025, Dearborn Detective Bureau and Dearborn Special Operations located Moore in Taylor. Officers took the 59-year-old into custody after a traffic stop without incident.

The Dearborn Department of Public Health hosts a list of professional substance abuse disorder and addiction treatment and counseling programs in the Dearborn area.

The department also provides free life-saving Narcan supplies at vending machines at the following locations:

  • John D. Dingell Transit Center, 21201 Michigan Ave
  • East Parking Deck, 22201 West Village Dr
  • Wagner Parking Deck, 1034 Monroe St (also includes supply of free fentanyl testing strips)
  • The Islamic Center of Detroit, 14350 Tireman Ave, Detroit, MI
