CALHOUN COUNTY, Mich. – A Michigan man was arrested after he was acting “erratically” and jumped on top of a car to get inside it, officials said.
At 9:02 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2025, Calhoun County deputies responded to a business in the 800 block of North Avenue after receiving reports of a customer “acting erratically and damaging store products.”
The suspect, a 44-year-old from Battle Creek, allegedly left the store and jumped onto a stopped vehicle nearby.
He tried to open the door, which caused the startled driver to speed up and crash into another vehicle.
The suspect tried to get into the disabled vehicle but failed. After that, he attempted to open the driver’s door of a third vehicle that was stopped, and when he couldn’t get in, he punched the car and damaged it.
When deputies arrived at the scene, the man ran away but was seen getting into the passenger’s seat of another vehicle.
The person driving that car quickly exited it to avoid conflict with the suspect, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies instructed the suspect to get out of the car and he initially complied, but then started to be uncooperative with the deputies.
He was eventually arrested and lodged at the Calhoun County Jail on felony charges.
Authorities say the driver was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
