PONTIAC, Mich. – Authorities are continuing to search for the man accused of attacking a 10-year-old girl while she was asleep inside her Oakland County home.
Pontiac residents are advised to keep their windows and doors locked as they search for the suspect, who is allegedly connected to a series of home invasions targeting young girls.
Four similar home invasions have all happened within blocks of each other.
The latest break-in happened at 4 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2025, in the 100 block of N. Anderson Street.
Monica Smith said she woke up to the sound of her 10-year-old daughter screaming.
At first, she thought her daughter was having a nightmare.
“I’m like, Kaylee, what’s wrong? She didn’t say—she kept on screaming,” Smith said. “I see a guy just shoot out from her room, and then Kaylee started yelling that the guy was choking her.”
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said they believe the suspect got into the home through an unlocked window in the kitchen.
Three other home invasions happened between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m. on Dec. 23, Jan. 25 and Jan. 26 . The homes were in the 600 block of Northway, 100 block of N. Edith and 100 block of N. Marshall.
So far, nothing has been stolen during these break-ins, and police believe the suspect is specifically targeting homes with young girls.
“It feels weird, said Shauntay Pryor. “Like, I didn’t know he was going around, I thought we were the only people.”
Pryor is a mother worried about this serial home invader believed to have been the one who got into her home and assaulted her daughter back on Jan. 25.
“This young man, whoever it is, threatened her with a knife and some scissors and told her to take her clothes off or he would kill her,” Pryor said.
Lt. Sam Marzban with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is now looking into the situation that has an entire Pontiac community on edge.
“We’re investigating more incidents,” said Marzban. “We’re also looking back on other home invasion incidents we have to see if they connect the cases.”
Authorities are continuing to search for the suspect and are urging residents to ensure their homes are secure, as the man wanted for these crimes has accessed homes through unlocked doors and windows.
The Pontiac School District is also advising the community to be cautious and released the following statement in part about the home invasions:
“We strongly encourage you to report any suspicious activity immediately to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. Please ensure that all windows and doors in your homes are securely locked and take extra precautions to remove any potential vulnerabilities that could assist someone in gaining entry. If you have any type of video surveillance system or alarm, we encourage you to use it.”
