Detroit NAACP holds public mass meeting in response to executive orders from Trump administration

DETROIT – The Detroit branch of the NAACP urges the community to come together in response to the Trump administration’s recent executive orders from the White House.

The organization hosted a public meeting at the Northwest Activities Center to discuss actions against DEI, ICE enforcement, and the federal funding freeze.

During the event, Detroit branch President, Reverend Dr. Wendell Anthony, encouraged everyone to know their rights and understand what the NAACP stands for.

“We are law-abiding citizens. We are lawmakers, not lawbreakers. The NAACP helps make laws, not break laws. We know some people in high places that are breaking the laws right now. That’s why we’re sitting here.”

Detroit public schools superintendent Nikolai Vitti also spoke. He reassured families that the schools were safe for their kids. He’s also told his staff to report any interactions with ice.
