Animal cruelty investigation launched in Detroit after dog severely stabbed in live-streamed attack

3 dogs and 4 cats rescued from home

DETROIT – In a shocking case of animal cruelty, a young adult female pit bull mix was brutally stabbed multiple times by her owner in Detroit.

The horrifying incident was live-streamed on Facebook, on Friday, drawing immediate attention from concerned citizens.

Crystal Perkins, the Director of Detroit’s General Services Department, shared that the incident was brought to light by a vigilant resident who alerted Detroit Animal Care and Control.

“If we had not had the tip from the resident, the community member, the person who saw it, this dog would have sustained much more injuries or could have succumbed to the injuries that they had already received by this person,” Perkins explained during a press conference on Monday.

Upon their investigation, authorities discovered not only the injured pit bull but also several other animals living in deplorable conditions.

“At the house, there were 3 dogs and 4 cats,” Perkins said. “The cats all were extremely underweight. One cat was also injured. Two dogs were underweight, as well.”

All animals have since been seized and are now receiving the care they desperately need.

The Detroit Police Department has taken over the investigation and released a statement saying “Detroit Police is investigating allegations of animal cruelty,” but said they couldn’t say anything else at this point in the investigation.

Animal advocates said this case highlights the importance of community vigilance and the swift action of local authorities in protecting animals from abuse.

“If you see something, say something,” Perkins said.

As the investigation continues, the community is urged to report any signs of animal cruelty to Detroit Animal Care and Control at 313-922-DOGS (3647).
