Here’s when, where, and how much snow to expect as winter weather approaches SE Michigan

A Winter Storm Watch was expanded to include all of Southeast Michigan starting Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning. This watch precedes advisories and warning.

Our region will likely be upgraded to a Winter Weather Advisory within the next 24 hours, if not a Winter Storm Warning, as the snowfall projections put us close to that criteria.

Where?

Oakland, Macomb, Wayne, St. Clair, Livingston, Washtenaw, Monroe counties and portions of the thumb region will be under the winter storm watch.

When?

The winter storm watch begins at 1 p.m. on Feb. 12, 2025, and is expected to last through 7 a.m. on Feb. 13, 2025.

Snow could start as early as 3 p.m. or so, but the more impactful, heavier snow will push through between the 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. timeframe.

How much?

Models as of this writing are keeping us in the 4 to 7-inch range, although snowfall amounts will be sensitive to trends in the forecast track of the system.

Expect heavier amounts north of M-59 and possibly lower amounts closer to the Ohio state line due to the threat of a wintry mix cutting in on totals.
