Officials said the Lexus failed to stop for the fully marked patrol car and fled from police.
A few blocks after the pursuit was initiated, the Lexus ran a red light on eastbound Grand River Avenue and southbound Telegraph Road, crashing into a white Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling south on Telegraph Road.
Officers on the scene immediately called for medical assistance and began providing aid to both drivers.
The driver of the Lexus, a 51-year-old woman from Detroit, and the driver of the Jeep, a 35-year-old man from Redford Township, were both transported to a Metro Detroit hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The RTPD patrol vehicle did not strike either vehicle. The Detroit Police Department responded to investigate the crash.
Officials said the driver of the Lexus does not have a valid driver’s license, and alcohol may have been a factor.
