CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – It was a full-blown Valentine’s Day party at Pine Ridge of Garfield in Clinton Township, and if there’s one thing we learned, it’s that these seniors have opinions on love.
For 86-year-old Tony Parish, the key to romance is White Castle.
“Take your date to White Castle,” he said.
And what should you order?
“Three cheeseburgers, three hamburgers, and fries,” Parish said.
But what if she’s not impressed?
“Well, if she’s not happy, she’s paying for the whole tab,” Tony laughed.
Roseanne, 87 and a half, gets straight to the point when meeting someone new.
“Do you have a pension?” she wrote.
Meanwhile, Edna (who insists she’s only 25) has even simpler advice.
“Marry for money,” she said
Then, there’s Joann Gracin, 88 and a half, who says a good partner must know how to move.
But what if you meet a great guy, and he’s a terrible dancer?
“Then I wouldn’t like him that much,” she said.
Some other advice:
- Have patience.
- Have a sense of humor.
- Compromise.
- Go walking in the moonlight.
- Find your best friend!
- Go dancing!
Then, there was Carol Terrell, 86, who summed up modern dating in one word: “Don’t.”
“I wouldn’t want to be out having to find a mate, especially with online dating,” she said. “It’s very tough out there.”
With all this talk of love, the seniors also reminded us that you don’t always need a date to have a great Valentine’s Day! Be your own Valentine and celebrate yourself!
