Islamic Relief USA collects food, distributes boxes to families facing hunger

Ramadan begins at end of February

Every year Islamic Relief USA collects thousands of pallets of food and distributes boxes to families facing hunger.

The event coincides with the holy month of Ramadan, which is observed by Muslims around the world.

Volunteers with Islamic Relief USA were busy Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025, morning packing boxes with food. Volunteer Zubin Khan drove all the way from Ann Arbor to Dearborn to make time to give back to the community.

Islamic Relief USA is holding several pack outs across the country this weekend. The organization will distribute half a million pounds of food.

At the Islamic Center of Detroit, the goal is to fill more than 1,500 boxes. The nonprofit partners with area organizations to identify and help those who need it most.

Ramadan begins at the end of February. Those observing fast from sun up to sun down. Volunteers say events like this embody the essence of the holy month.
