ROSEVILLE, Mich. – A Detroit police officer has been charged in connection to a crash that killed a motorcyclist last summer, the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office announced.
On Friday, Aug. 16, 2024, Corey Siquan Jones, 28, allegedly ran through a red light in Roseville and was hit by Evan Newman, 27, who had been lawfully traveling through a green light on a motorcycle.
Newman died at the scene, according to the prosecutor’s office.
On Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2025, Jones was charged with a moving violation causing death, which is a one-year misdemeanor.
He was arraigned on Friday, Feb. 21, 2025, and give a $5,000 personal bond.
Jones' probable cause conference is scheduled for Wednesday, March 5, 2025.
“Police officers are sworn to uphold the law, but they are also bound by it,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido. “No one is above the law, and our justice system must apply equally to all.”
