MACOMB TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A deputy rescued a dog from a fire that broke out at a Macomb County home last week.

At 12:39 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 17, 2025, deputies responded to the 46000 block of Brentwood Street in Macomb Township to assist the fire department.

A 911 caller reported that she saw smoke and flames coming from a gas dryer in the home’s basement, and had put the family dog outside on its tether before she called, the sheriff’s office said.

She told authorities no one else was inside the home.

When deputies arrived at the house, they put the caller inside a patrol vehicle to stay warm and then a deputy, Eric McCombs, realized that the dog was still tethered outside the house.

Body camera footage shows McCombs getting a leash from his patrol car and running to save the dog.

He then brought the dog to the patrol vehicle to be reunited with the homeowner.

Authorities said the home couldn’t be saved from the fire.

“The outstanding communication by Dispatch and the quick actions of the MCSO Deputies on scene, ensured the safety of the two residents of the home and the family dog,” the sheriff’s office said.
