MONROE COUNTY, Mich. – An inmate was found dead in a Monroe County Jail cell, sparking an investigation by police.
Corrections officers at the jail said they found the 56-year-old Toledo man unresponsive in his cell around 3:50 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2025.
They gave the man CPR until firefighters and medical officials arrived, but he was ultimately pronounced dead.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau is investigating the death.
"Out of respect for the family, the victim’s identity is being withheld at this time," the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said in a release. “The Sheriff’s Office is saddened at the loss of life and extends their condolences to the individual’s family.”
