Shooter, victim in Troy Corewell hospital shooting were ‘best friends’ in radiology department

Police said they ‘recently had a falling out’

TROY, Mich. – Multiple people have confirmed to Local 4 that the suspect and the victim in Thursday’s shooting in Troy were “best friends.”

Police said it happened just after 7 a.m. in parking garage for Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital on Dequindre Road. An employee was reportedly shot twice by another employee. The suspect was taken into custody in Macomb County shortly after the shooting.

Multiple people who were close to those involved said the suspect and victim were “best friends” who worked in the radiology department together.

Police said they “recently had a falling out.”

The victim, a 25-year-old man from Troy, is currently being treated for his injuries. He is expected to survive. Police said he was able to tell police who shot him.

Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital went into lockdown and Troy Public Schools went into “minimum security mode” following the shooting.

The suspect is expected to be arraigned within the next 24 to 48 hours.
