DETROIT – Multiple people were injured after an explosion at an apartment complex on Detroit’s west side early Monday morning.
The explosion happened on Littlefield at an apartment complex at around 4 a.m. on March 31.

Chuck Simms, the executive fire commissioner for the Detroit Fire Department, held a short press conference early Monday morning to provide more information on the explosion.
He said when crews responded to the apartment complex, firefighters saw people hanging from the windows in an attempt to jump out and escape. Crews were able to rescue them.
Simms said at least 13 people were rescued and taken to multiple local hospitals for treatment.
Victims injured
Simms said a 30-year-old man has severe burns to 90% of his body, a 27-year-old woman is in serious condition with severe burns to 20 to 40% of her body and a 3-year-old had burns to about 15% of her body. He said the victims with the most severe injuries were living in one unit.
A 26-year-old woman and her four children were taken to the hospital. Simms said they are all expected to recover.
A 3-year-old boy, a 26-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man were taken to a hospital and are expected to be okay.
A woman who lived in the apartment said her boyfriend was also transported to the hospital after he rescued their 5-month-old son while escaping their apartment. Her full interview can be viewed here.
Fire crews are still investigating the complex but believe everyone has been rescued.
Nine of the victims have been treated and released. A 26-year-old woman who is pregnant was treated and sent to the labor and delivery department so that she and the baby can be monitored. Three of the victims with severe burns remain hospitalized and are in critical condition.
The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
