How former Detroit Riverfront CFO embezzled $40 million undetected for over a decade

Federal prosecutors are looking to sentence the former Detroit Riverfront Conservancy CFO to 18 years in prison after he embezzled millions from the nonprofit for over ten years.

Prosecutors said William Smith, former CFO of the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy, embezzled over $40 million from the nonprofits on almost only goods and services for himself, his family and his personal associates from November 2012 through May 2024.

Mike Rogers launches campaign for U.S. Senate in Michigan

Mike Rogers launched his campaign for U.S. Senate in Michigan for the second time.

Rogers announced his bid for U.S. Senator Gary Peters’ seat after he announced in January that he wouldn’t seek another term.

The former Republican U.S. Representative for Michigan’s 8th congressional district ran for U.S. Senate in 2024 but lost to U.S. Senator Elissa Slotkin by a small margin.

Man allegedly attempts to rob Detroit store with duct taped gun

A man was arrested after allegedly trying to rob a Detroit store with a duct taped gun.

It happened on April 1, 2025, just after 9 a.m. at Vogue Market on Detroit’s east side.

The clerk told police that a man tried to rob the store at gunpoint, but then ran away.

40 student-athletes added to lawsuit against University of Michigan in ex-coach hacking investigation

The University of Michigan has a class action lawsuit on its hands because of former football coach Matt Weiss.

The number of plaintiffs in the suit jumped from two to 42 over the weekend.

Weiss is accused of exposing private images and videos of thousands of student-athletes. He was federally charged in March.

It’s a much warmer start to your Monday thanks to a southerly flow of wind. Temperatures will continue to rise well into the 60s today, close to 70, before a strong cold front pushes through Southeast Michigan this afternoon. The wind will shift out of the west and gusts increase into the 30 mph range with a few gusts near 40 mph by late afternoon and this evening. This will be “winds of change.”
