GROSSE ILE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The Grosse Ile Parkway Bridge is set to close for construction work next month, and the closure is expected to last for weeks.
When will the bridge close?
The bridge will close to pedestrians and vehicles at 7 a.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2025, according to a release from the Wayne County Department of Public Services.
The closure is expected to be in place for eight weeks, but this timeframe depends on weather conditions and any other delays that crews may encounter.
“Wayne County Department of Public Services appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as we work to complete these important infrastructure improvements safely and efficiently,” the department said.
What type of work is being done on the bridge?
During the closure, crews will perform structural steel repairs on the Grosse Ile Parkway bridge.
What are the detours?
While the bridge is closed, barriers will be put on both ends of it. Drivers will be rerouted to the Grosse Ile Toll Bridge.
Here are the detour routes:
- Eastbound: From W. Jefferson Avenue, turn right onto Bridge Road, then right onto Meridian Road, and continue to Grosse Ile Parkway
- Westbound: From Grosse Ile Parkway, turn left onto Meridian Road, then left onto Bridge Road, and left onto W. Jefferson Avenue.
The bridge also will not swing open for marine traffic during this time.
