WASHTENAW COUNTY, Mich. – Two of the three suspects in the double murder of a Washtenaw County foster family were bound over for trial, and details about how they knew each other were revealed.

Gregory Callhan, 37, and Keith Finley, 60, were in court before Washtenaw County Judge Cedric Simpson on Wednesday, April 16, for their preliminary examinations. Vinson wasn’t in court, but has a competency hearing scheduled for May 22.

Vinson, Callhan and Finely are accused of being involved in the murder of Jennifer Bernhard, 42, and Stevie Smith, 74, and the attempted murder of Jeffrey Bernhard, 53, on Nollar Bend Road in Northfield Township on Jan. 1, 2025. They are also accused of kidnapping Bernhard’s 10-year-old daughter and their 4-year-old foster daughter.

Several people were called to testify about the case, so the judge could decide if there was enough evidence to send Callhan and Finley to trial.

We heard from Jeffrey Bernhard, who recalled being shot on the night of the murders, and from several law enforcement officers who discussed responding to the scene, arresting the suspects, and other findings of the investigation, including how Vinson, Callhan and Finley allegedly knew each other.

When Northfield Township Sgt. James Basso interviewed Callhan he asked him about his relationship to Vinson several times. At first, Callhan told Basso he didn’t know Vinson, but then later said he grew up with her.

Finley had allegedly just met Vinson.

Northfield Township Sgt. Jason Roberts said that Finley had recently met her at a crack house in Detroit and had only known her for a couple of days.

Finley told Roberts that he didn’t know Callhan, but there was video of the three of them on one of Vinson’s phones the night of the murders.

“I obtained a search warrant to search Ms. Vinson’s cellular devices, cell phones, and on one of those cell phones, there’s a video of her doing a selfie video,” said Roberts. “She’s recording while she’s in the car driving, with Mr. Callhan in the front seat and Mr. Finley in the back seat, the day before the incident.”

Finley told Roberts that he didn’t know the Northfield Township area well and that Vinson had told him she needed his help with something.
