An associate professor of electrical engineering and computer science at U-M, Fu is the founder of the Archimedes Center for Medical Device Security. The university released the following Q&A with Fu, who discussed the medical device industry and the challenges it faces. Updating legacy medical device software is a huge challenge. A lot of medical device manufacturers have a difficult time grappling with computer security risks. The world needs five-year academic programs that combine biomedical engineering, software engineering and public policy to culminate with a masterโs degree.
Ann Arbor cybersecurity startup Blumiraโs rapid growth continues with hiring push
ANN ARBOR โ Local cybersecurity startup Blumira has plans to double its headcount in 2021. With a team of 25, Blumira plans to double its headcount by the end of the year with a focus on hiring additional leadership roles and growing its sales and engineering teams. Part of Blumiraโs success over the past year is due to its adoption of SaaS applications and migration to the cloud. Most recently, he led product management at Duo Security, which was acquired by Cisco in 2018 for $2.35 billion. in computer science and was head of UX and engineering at Arbor Networks (acquired by NETSCOUT in 2015) prior to his role at Duo Security.

Ann Arbor-based Censys raises $15.5 million; develops scan engine that sees 44% more of the internet
ANN ARBOR, Mich. Ann Arbor-based Censys announced that it raised $15.5 million in its latest round of funding and has developed a new platform that scans 44% more of the Internet than its competitors. The engine works by quickly finding security vulnerabilities in a companys online assets. This lets companies make risk assessments and Censys recommends remediation so companies can protect themselves from security breaches. Censys CEO and co-founder David Corcoran said that Censys aims to make security issues more visible for its clients. Banks could get fined for cyber breaches, top regulator says
Copyright 2019 CNN(CNN) - Cybersecurity is the biggest threat facing America's banks, FDIC Chairman Jelena McWilliams told CNN Business. McWilliams, a Trump-appointed regulator who helps oversee about 4,000 mostly smaller lenders, said the FDIC could fine a bank that suffers a major breach after failing to fix weak cyber defenses flagged by the agency. Beyond a fine, McWilliams said shoddy cyber defenses could force regulators to downgrade their ratings on bank management teams.
