Detroit-built technology aims to change the game in sailboat racing
DETROIT โ Racing sailboats is a niche sport, but itโs popular here in the Great Lakes state. A new technology -- developed locally in the Motor City -- is a finalist for the World Sailing 11th Hour Racing Sustainability Award. Several local sailboat enthusiasts wanted to reduce the environmental impact of the sport and came up with a new technology that has them in the running for a big prize. โWhen we were selected, it was a pretty powerful moment for the whole team,โ said Kevin Morin. Morin, along with 10 others, invented the MarkSetBot -- a done that hovers in the water and acts as a marker during sailboat races.
Freighter aground on Detroit River now freed
DETROIT โ A freighter that ran aground on the Detroit River has been freed Thursday. The U.S. Coast Guard tweeted that the the Harvest Spirit has been refloated and will undergo further inspection. The 500-foot freighter Harvest Spirit, aground in the Detroit River since Wednesday morning, was successfully refloated this afternoon and is safely anchored in U.S. waters while awaiting a thorough inspection. Belleville man killed in jet ski, boat crash on Lake St. Clair
ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Mich. โ A 30-year-old man has died after the jet ski he was operating collided with a boat on Lake St. Clair on Saturday afternoon. Police say the crash occurred at about 7 p.m. near the mouth of Big Muscamoot Bay. Officials say the operator of the boat initially fled the scene but was later located near Metro Beach. The boat operator did not sustain any injuries in the crash, police said. The crash occurred in the same area of the lake where the Raft Off event took place Saturday -- a boating event that attracts large crowds of people each year.
Homeowners in Harrison Township take drastic measures to fight flooding
HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ Rising water levels continue to be a big concern across the state of Michigan, including in Metro Detroit. Last month, Lake Michigan, Lake Huron and Lake Saint Clair all set all-time high water levels. In Harrison Township homeowners are being forced to take drastic measures to fight against flooding. Boater who went overboard in Lake Saint Clair found alive
MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. - Officials have found a boater who fell off a boat in Lake Saint Clair in Macomb County. The 43-year-old man went overboard after 8 p.m. Monday just 2.5 miles out of the Clinton River. He was found shortly afterwards.
