Police are looking for a suspected gunman in a Jan. 15, 2021 shooting in Midtown Detroit. DETROIT โ Police are looking for a man wanted in connection with a nonfatal shooting in Detroitโs Midtown district. According to authorities, the shooting happened just before 3 p.m. Friday in a building near the intersection of Willis Street and 2nd Avenue. Their project, Detroit Square, highlights the importance of shared cultural infrastructure for Detroitโs Cultural Center.
Construction of new Woodward West residential, retail site underway in Detroitโs Midtown neighborhood
DETROIT โ A new development project is underway in Detroitโs Midtown neighborhood that will offer over 200 apartments and ground-floor retail space. Construction of Woodward West, a $60 million mixed-use development project, broke ground on Nov. 9 on Woodward Avenue at Stimson Street. Slated to open in the summer of 2022, the five-story structure plans to offer 204 apartments and 25,000 feet of retail space. Officials say the site is meant to be inclusive of the existing neighborhood and its residents: 20% of Woodward West apartments will be offered as affordable housing, while a portion of the retail space will be reserved as โentrepreneur spaceโ for new businesses, officials said Thursday. Motor City Match winner celebrates opening of nail salon in Detroit
DETROIT โ The Motor City Match program has helped more than 13,000 businesses in Detroit, ranging from boutiques to nail salons. On Monday, a Motor City Match winner celebrated the opening of her nail salon located in the basement of an apartment building on Second Avenue. After spending years working at salons in the suburbs, she wanted to bring the luxury to the city. Vang said getting to this day took over two years, dealing with a variety of hurdles such as the coronavirus pandemic. As I always say, I want to serve the city that have raised me.

Michigan volunteers receive first shot in Moderna COVID-19 vaccine study
DETROIT The first group of volunteers in Michigan to participate in the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine study received their first shots Wednesday, Henry Ford Health System announced. Henry Ford Health System is the only hospital in Michigan selected as a trial site for phase three of the Moderna mRNA-1273 Coronavirus Efficacy (COVE) vaccine study. This is a historic moment, said Dr. Marcus Zervos, division chief of Infectious Disease for Henry Ford Health System. I give them all the respect in the world.The first dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine study in Michigan was administered Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2020. About 90 healthcare systems across the United States are working competitively to enroll a total of 30,000 volunteers to participate in the Moderna vaccine study.

DETROIT โ Each year for the past 46 years, Noel Night has descended upon Midtown and blessed our holiday season with horse-drawn carriages, hot chocolate, roasted almonds and magic shows. Midtown Detroit Inc., which organizes Noel Night each year, announced new daytime hours last year, a measure put in place after four teenagers were shot during Noel Night in 2017. Police: 14-year-old boy who ran away after being dropped off at school in Midtown Detroit has been found
DETROIT โ A 14-year-old boy who ran away after his mother dropped him off at a school in Midtown Detroit has been located and is safe, police said. Isaiah Jones was last seen at 8:22 a.m. Monday when his mother dropped him off at school in the 100 block of Selden Street, according to officials. He is now back home with his family, police said. Police believe Isaiah ran away.
Robbers take man's cell phone, keys, hit victim with pistol in Detroit
DETROIT - A man was robbed after getting off the bus in Midtown Detroit by two men wearing ski masks Thursday night at 11:45 p.m., according to the Detroit Police Department. The victim, a 38-year-old man, was approached by the suspects driving a dark sedan while walking eastbound on Brainard Street from Second Avenue. The victim was hit with the pistol multiple times, but he refused medical treatment. The first suspect is described as a heavy-set black male wearing a black ski mask and dark clothing who was armed with a black pistol, according to DPD. The second suspect is described as a 6-foot black man also wearing a ski mask and dark clothing, according to DPD.
