April showers start right away in Metro Detroit: What to expect this week

Multiple chances for rain this week

4Warn Weather – Good Monday morning and welcome to April! Our week begins with April showers wasting no time.

Rain begins this morning, and will continue through much of the week. You’ll need the umbrella this morning, especially if you’re closer to the state line.

The morning rain will end by mid-late morning, with a dry stretch expected around the lunch hour. But another round of widespread rain will return for the evening commute.

Highs will be in the low or mid-50s today.

Tonight’s sunset is at 7:59 p.m.

The rain will stick around overnight into Tuesday.

We’re tracking potential severe weather just to our south on Monday and Tuesday. Severe weather risks have been issued for the Midwest and Ohio Valley, but should avoid Metro Detroit.

Heavier rain possible Tuesday

We may get a brief break from the rain early Tuesday morning, but that break will be short-lived. Expect rain to return by lunchtime and stick around the rest of the day and night.

Highs will be in the upper 40s.

We could see heavier rounds of rain later in the day, particularly between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. Remnant showers will linger beyond then, with rain expected overnight into Wednesday.

Expect rain showers to continue for Wednesday.

Wet weather continues Thursday. But, as a low pressure system moves east Thursday, we could see a wintry mix rather than just rain -- especially up toward the thumb.

Highs will be in the mid-40s Wednesday, and low-40s Thursday.

Sunshine by Friday

Sunshine will finally return to the forecast on Friday. Expect a mix of sun and clouds with highs in the upper 40s near 50 degrees. As of right now, no problems are expected for the Detroit Tigers home opener at Comerica Park on Friday.

That dry weather and warming trend will continue into the weekend.

Expect mostly sunny skies Saturday with highs in the mid-50s. Highs will rise to the upper 50s to near 60 degrees on Sunday.
