Here’s the solar eclipse cloud forecast for Metro Detroit

Tracking rain, storms other days this week

4Warn Weather – Apart from early morning rain, we’re expecting some sunshine on this Monday.

Our day begins with cloud cover. Data shows, however, that cloud cover will improve as we approach the total solar eclipse this afternoon! Expect partly cloudy skies, though some areas could become mostly sunny this afternoon.

When it comes to eclipse viewing: Some cloud cover is expected throughout most of Southeast Michigan and into the path of totality in Ohio. I don’t think this will be thick cloud cover, and should be more high-level cloud cover. Which means, I don’t expect clouds to spoil our viewing conditions.

Most of Michigan is not within the path of totality, though, and will only see a partial eclipse.

Highs today will be in the 60s.

Tonight’s sunset is at 8:07 p.m.

Mainly clear skies can be expected overnight tonight. Overnight lows will drop into the mid-40s, so not as chilly as the last few mornings.

Potentially severe weather Tuesday

We will keep some clouds and some sunshine in the forecast Tuesday. Highs will be in the lower 70s.

However, as a cold front rolls into the region, we’ll have chances for rain showers and even a few thunderstorms on Tuesday, likely in the afternoon and evening.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed most of Southeast Michigan under a marginal risk (level 1 of 5) of severe weather Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday evening. We could see a few gusty thunderstorms, and possibly some hail.
