Severe storms possible this week in Metro Detroit: What to know

Highs reach 80 degrees midweek

4Warn Weather – Dry weather is on tap for this Monday. The day begins cool with temps around 50, depending where you’re waking up.

We’ll have some filtered sunshine due to high clouds today, but we’ll see some clearing of the cloud cover before sunset.

We are starting the work week with seasonal highs in the upper 60s.

Tonight’s sunset is at 8:39 p.m.

Overnight lows will be in the mid-40s.

Severe storms possible Tuesday

We will begin with sunshine on Tuesday. Then, clouds will build in during the afternoon ahead of showers and possible thunderstorms in the evening.

Generally, cities southwest of a line from Flint to Detroit will be at a marginal risk (level 1 of 5) for severe thunderstorms Tuesday. A warm front will lift through the region, creating instability that may lead to severe storms.

Showers may reach us around 6 p.m., though more widespread rain and potential storms are expected at 7 p.m.

The severe storms could bring damaging wind, large hail, flooding, and an isolated weak tornado. We’re not guaranteed to see each or all of these threats, but the ingredients will be there for a low-end chance for seeing any of those threats.

Warming up for Wednesday

We’ll rise up to 80 degrees on Wednesday, the warmest day of the week.

After that, highs will drop back into the 60s for the rest of the week and through the weekend.

We’ll have another chance for showers on Thursday. Severe storms are not expected Thursday.

Showers may also be possible this weekend.

Elsewhere ...

Nationally, there is a risk of severe thunderstorms over parts of the Plains on Monday and across the Ohio Valley on Tuesday. Meanwhile, heavy snow is expected over higher elevations from the Pacific Northwest to portions of the Rockies.
