Local legends, Grand Funk Railroad hit the Detroit Music Hall stage Thursday, January 9th as part of The Locomotion Tour celebrating the 50th anniversary of The Loco-Motion! The tour started last year, sold out completely at the Soaring Eagle Casino and is now making its way through Detroit.

Six the Musical

Fisher Theatre

The Tony-winning show “SIX” will be at the Fisher Theater from January 7th- January 12th. For those unfamiliar, “SIX” tells the story of the six wives of Henry VIII and how they ended up married to one of England’s most infamous kings. It sounds a little bit like “Hamilton,” but the wives’ stories are told through the lens of a pop concert. Each wife embodies a famous pop diva (Catherine of Aragon has Beyoncé energy, for example), and sings an epic pop anthem about how Henry wronged them.

Friday, January 10th from 8pm-11pm

Matrix Theatre

This is an opportunity of a lifetime that you don’t want to miss. If you’re wondering what this event might be, it’s exactly what it sounds like it will be. This Friday, head on over to the Matrix Theatre, choose a puppet of your liking and sing your heart out baby, because its Puppet Karaoke. It’s described as Fraggle Rock meets Tupac, which if anything sets the tone for a fun filled evening of light heartedness with a bit of vulgarity.

Winter at Valade’s Fire and Ice festival is back this weekend for tons of medieval winter fun! Stop by for the ice carving competition, giant Fire and Ice Tower and stay for the oversized fires, turkey legs and ax throwing. There will also be plenty of fun photo opportunities with a giant throne made of ice, Frozen’s Elsa and tantalizing Renaissance Fair performers.

The Detroit Auto Show returns back to its January roots! Buckle up, there’s a lot of new vehicles to see! From January 10th to January 20th car enthusiasts and families can enjoy the newest vehicles, exotic supercars, luxury and modified cars, the latest Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Corvette models, technology displays, interactive track activations, custom car exhibits and more. The biggest highlight this year will be four indoor test tracks and a “Detroit Through the Decades” exhibit featuring classic cars.

Planet Ant Theatre is at it again. Welcome to Slurptopia is a surreal, campy, fantasy-driven satirical comedy inspired by Y2K internet culture, city pop, and theme restaurants. Using humor, it paints an allegory of modern society and with wit explores themes of impulsivity, hedonism, maximalism, and free will. Tickets can be purchased online or at the Planet Ant box office.

Looking for something fun to get into this weekend? Check out Bowers School Farm in Bloomfield Hills. Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through February 23rd Bowers School Farm is free and open to the public for visitors to meet their animals, enjoy their cozy bonfires and to indulge in a variety of comfort foods from their Farm Kitchen and Store. Visitors can also purchase tickets to ride down their tubing hill that takes you through a giant light tunnel. It is recommended to purchase tubing tickets in advance due to its popularity.

Cranbrook Art Museum

Did you know that every Thursday Cranbrook Art Museum is open late and has free admission? Well, you do now. Currently, the museum has three new and two ongoing exhibits you can check out when you visit. If a Thursday museum visit doesn’t work into your schedule, you can visit from 11am-5pm on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sunday for $6-$10.
