4Warn Weather – After some snowflakes and plenty of cloud cover along with cold temperatures to end the weekend, the cloud cover has broken up overnight and we have some much needed sunshine on the way, the calm before the busy weather week ahead for Metro Detroit.
Here’s a timeline of significant snowfall that’s expected to hit Metro Detroit this week:
Wednesday into Thursday
All eyes are on the significant weather system that will impact the region late Wednesday through Thursday. The forecast has been very solid with this system since the end of last week, with cold temperatures in place this would favor an entirely snow event for the region.
We’re going to watch a second area of low pressure developed over the Tennessee Valley and work north and east through the Appalachian region. With a frontal boundary swinging through in tandem with that low pressure system, we will have enough moisture around that we are expecting snow to develop Wednesday night and into Thursday, and this could be a very decent snowmaker for all of southeastern Michigan, where we would be talking snow in quite a few inches. We still have a few more days to find tune this end of the forecast, but preparation should begin for a significant snowmaker Late Wednesday and into Thursday. High temperature is heading for the mid 20s on Wednesday, and only into the upper 20s by the time we get to Thursday.
Friday into Saturday
Dry weather moves into the forecast, looking ahead into the end of the week on Friday, we will keep mostly cloudy skies into the forecast before it looks like another round of snow would move into the region late Friday and into the first half of next weekend on Saturday. High temperatures in the middle 20s on Friday will warm into the upper 20s to write around 30° by Saturday.
Looking ahead
We will keep the chances for snow into the forecast looking ahead into the end of the weekend on Sunday as well. High temperatures running well below average, into the lower 20s by Sunday afternoon.
High-pressure builds into the region to start next week on Monday, so that means we will see lots of sunshine moving into the region before cloud’s increase Monday afternoon and into Monday evening. High temperature is heading back into the low 30s by Monday afternoon.
