Taylor seniors targeted by fake Flex Seal reps lead to kerfuffle with 81-year-old

Trio of men drove blue Chevy Equinox

TAYLOR, Mich. – A trio of men are preying on Taylor seniors by pretending to be workers offering home repairs.

The incident occurred Munson and Bailey streets

The wanted men are still out there and, according to the police, determined to rip someone else off.

But officials said the men picked on the wrong 81-year-old homeowner, who punched one of the men as they threw him to the ground.

The men drove a new blue Chevy Equinox while pretending to be a Flex Seal sales representative.

Officials say they enter victims' homes without permission.

“He goes to the foot of the steps, and he sees the young man in his house at the foot of the stairs,” said Taylor Police Department Lieutenant Frank Canning. “He (The victim) yells at them to get out of his house. The men offers the victim some sort of caulking service for his driveway and the victims tells them to get of of here.”

Local 4 spoke with the 81-year-old man who was home Tuesday (Oct. 29) and found one of the men in his home.

He told the homeowner he had done work on the home

before the homeowner said he did not, causing him to snap a photo of the three men with his phone.

The three men pushed him to the ground and took his cell phone.

“But the vehicle reversed down the street at a high rate of speed to escape while trying to avoid their license plate number getting picked up,” Canning said.

Neighbor Pam Hosmer said she saw the fake sales reps and approached them as they pushed the 81-year-old men away.

“They pushed him down, and his hand was bleeding,” said Hosmer.

Hosmer not only saw one of the men push her neighbor down, but she also said one of the guys was at her home, saying they were there to do work.

“I was standing at the door, but if I wasn’t, he might have went in,” Hosmer said.
