Do you want to create a color walk?

Find joy in walking while boosting mental health

FILE - People walk along a trail, July 11, 2021, in Death Valley National Park, Calif. Americans may soon get a better glimpse into a future of green-friendly transportation by visiting a U.S. national park. Its a joint pledge being signed Wednesday by Interior Secretary Deb Haaland and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to test some of the newest and most innovative travel technologies on public lands. The plan is being made possible by the $1 trillion infrastructure law and other federal spending. Under new pilot programs, visitors to national parks could see self-driving shuttle buses, along with more electric scooter or bike stations and electric charging stations for travelers in zero-emission cars. Do you enjoy walking through vibrant streets, admiring the hues around you, and seeing the world in a different light?

If so, we’re looking for YOU to be part of The Color Walk.

It’s a TikTok trend that you can find online from as far back as 2021 and is still picking up the pace in boosting our mental health.

The Color Walk is a form of walking meditation where you pick a color right at the start of your walk and notice that color in your environment during your walk. For example, if you pick red, you might notice the sign for Local 4 News on Lafayette, or a person’s shirt. The goal is to pay attention to let go of your thoughts and worries and focus more on what you see.

There are a few benefits of color walking:

  • Maintain healthy weight
  • Reduce stress and anxiety
  • Improve sleep and mood
  • Assist in passive emotional processing
