Winter weather advisories have been issued for several counties in Michigan as freezing rain is expected to move through the state.
Freezing rain will move into the state from the south just after midnight on Wednesday, and be more widespread across Southeast Michigan from 4 to 7 a.m. on Thursday.
Meteorologists say ice accumulations of up to a tenth of an inch are expected, with total sleet and snow accumulation of up to 1 inch possible.
The freezing rain will make untreated roads and sidewalks slick. Drivers are advised to allow more time for their commutes on Thursday morning. These icy weather conditions could also cause school closures.
List of winter weather advisories in Michigan
Due to these weather conditions, winter weather advisories have been issued for the following Southeast Michigan counties from 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2025, through 9 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025:
- Genesee
- Lapeer
- Lenawee
- Livingston
- Macomb
- Monroe
- Oakland
- Shiawassee
- St. Clair
- Washtenaw
- Wayne

The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids also issued winter weather advisories for several counties in that region to due to freezing rain.
The advisories are also in effect from 10 p.m. Wednesday through 9 a.m. Thursday morning and include the following counties:

- Barry
- Calhoun
- Clinton
- Eaton
- Ionia
- Ingham
- Jackson
- Kalamazoo
- Kent
- Muskegon
- Ottawa
- Van Buren
