Despite pushback from some communities, Sheetz announced it is planning to open four more locations in Metro Detroit.
The gas station and convenience chain said the new stores will be in the following locations:
- 45075 North Gratiot Avenue, Macomb, MI, 48042
- 5970 12 Mile Road, Warren, MI, 48092
- 29455 Grand River Avenue, Farmington Hills, MI, 48336
- 39471 West 12 Mile Road, Novi, MI, 48377
The first Sheetz location in Metro Detroit opened at 33380 Wick Road in Romulus.
The nine other Sheetz locations that were previously announced include the following:
- 19001 East 9 Mile Road, Eastpointe, MI 48021
- 8200 Telegraph Road, Taylor, MI 48180
- 20623 Eureka Road, Taylor, MI 48180
- 45011 Garfield Road, Macomb, MI 48044
- 31925 Van Dyke Avenue, Warren, MI 48093
- 2103 West Michigan Avenue, Ypsilanti, MI 48197
- 29225 Smith Road, Romulus, MI 48174
- 23 Mile Road just east of Interstate 94 in Chesterfield Township, MI
- Southwest corner of 14 Mile and Utica roads in Fraser, MI
This comes as Sheetz has faced pushback about putting locations in different communities in the area.
Highland Township’s council meeting was packed with residents who were both for and against a Sheetz location being put in their community.
Those opposed to it said traffic and the effect it would have on local businesses were among their worries.
Ultimately, the Highland Township location was approved.
Leaders are also set to decide if a location will be put in Royal Oak. The city of Livonia recently voted down a rezoning ordinance for a Sheetz store, and leaders in Madison Heights, Waterford, and Rochester Hills have voted against putting stores in their communities.
Although there is opposition to the stores, the business is on track to open 50 to 60 new locations in Southeast Michigan over the next six years.
Construction will begin on the 13 approved Metro Detroit stores later this year and in 2026, but specific details haven’t been released.
“We’ve heard loud and clear there’s strong support for Sheetz across greater Detroit,” said Travis Sheetz, President and CEO in a release. “The City of Romulus has embraced us with tremendous enthusiasm for our distinctive offerings which include indoor and outdoor dining options, drive-thrus, electric vehicle chargers and an award-winning menu of Made-to-Order food. We look forward to working closely with neighboring municipalities who are excited to introduce our unique experience to their residents all while driving growth, attracting investment and creating good jobs for their communities.”
