ROSEVILLE, Mich. – A massive fire engulfed a building in Roseville on Tuesday.
Where
The fire is at the RCO Engineering industrial building on 12 Mile Road between Hayes Road and Groesbeck Highway in Roseville.
Multiple roads around that area have been closed.
When
Sky 4 first arrived at the scene of the fire at 11:29 a.m. Tuesday, and white smoke was already billowing out of the roof.
By 11:51 a.m., the smoke was dark, and flames could be seen through holes in the top of the building.
The fire was put out by the afternoon.
Shelter in place
The fire prompted a shelter-in-place for residents within a half-mile of the building.
Residents were asked to stay inside and close their windows and doors because there was a risk of chemicals in the smoke plume.
The shelter-in-place was lifted around 1:45 p.m. Tuesday -- more than two hours after the fire began.
“We did send a hazmat team out, and we conducted air quality sampling. We never picked up anything of concern in the air,” said Brandon Lewis, the Emergency Management Director for Macomb County.
Firefighters on scene
Aerial video shows at least five fire trucks at the scene, and there are dozens of firefighters.
Water was being sprayed down on the flames from two fire trucks.
What caused the fire?
As of 5 a.m. Wednesday, it’s not yet clear what caused the fire.
Once firefighters have extinguished the flames, they will likely launch an investigation to try to determine how the fire started.
