Kane scores 400th goal as Blackhawks beat Red Wings 7-2

Kane scored his 400th career goal, Kevin Lankinen made a career-high 44 saves and the Chicago Blackhawks closed out a successful February with a 7-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday night. Bouncing back nicely from a 5-3 loss to the Red Wings on Saturday night, the Blackhawks closed out a 9-3-1 February with their third win in four games. The Red Wings played without captain Dylan Larkin for the second straight game because of an upper-body injury. The Red Wings, who put 21 shots on net in the first, got one back when Gagner redirected Jon Merrill's shot past Lankinen with 2:09 to go.

AdThe Red Wings ended up losing their second straight to the Lightning, 3-1, on Friday. I think weโll see the Red Wings win at least one of these. Friday night could have gotten out of hand against the Lightning, but Greiss gave the Red Wings a chance. The Red Wings bought out Abdelkaderโs hefty contract in October. He was in the 5th year of a 7-year contract he signed with the Red Wings in 2015.

Victor Hedman, Ryan McDonagh, Anthony Cirelli and Brayden Point also scored for Tampa Bay, which remained unbeaten in five home games this season. The Lightning stretched their home win streak against the Red Wings to 15 dating to Dec. 12, 2013. It might not feel like it, but a lot has happened in Red Wings world recently. The Red Wings are not looking for anything long-term in net. The Red Wings acquired Staal and a second-round draft pick from the New York Rangers for future considerations. I think Bertuzzi has been a consistently good player on a very consistently bad Red Wings team. I am always skeptical of every draft pick until we see him in the lineup, in a Red Wings sweater and playing well.

DETROIT โ The Detroit Red Wings have signed former Michigan Wolverines defenseman Jon Merrill to a one-year contract. He was a standout at Michigan for three seasons between 2010 and 2013.
