2020 Nobel Peace ceremony won't be held in person in Oslo
COPENHAGEN โ The winner of the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize โ the World Food Program โ and the Norwegian Nobel Committee said Wednesday they have jointly agreed to postpone the in-person award ceremony in Oslo next month because of the coronavirus pandemic. The Nobel Peace Prize ceremony usually is held at Oslo City Hall. Now, the Norwegian Nobel Committee is planning "a digital award ceremony where the WFP will be presented with the medal and diploma.โ U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is also expected to attend the virtual forum. Earlier this month, the Norwegian government had granted an exemption from its two-week quarantine requirement for arriving visitors so representatives from the winner of the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize could attend the award ceremony in Oslo. He called the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize โan important event of great national and international interest.โโWe want to make it easy for the prize winner to be physically present this year as well.
Nobel UN food agency warns 2021 will be worse than 2020

The 2014 Nobel Peace Prize winner, now 22, posted images on Twitter of her celebration early Friday upon completing a degree in philosophy, politics and economics. Hard to express my joy and gratitude right now as I completed my Philosophy, Politics and Economics degree at Oxford, she tweeted. She went back to school as soon as she could but kept campaigning for the right to an education for others. The conflict between Ethiopia and Eritrea over disputed border territory came at a huge financial and humanitarian cost for both countries. OSLO, Norway - Greta Thunberg, the 16-year-old climate activist, is widely considered by bookmakers to be the favorite to win the 100th Nobel Peace Prize. There are 301 candidates in the running for this year's award -- 223 individuals and 78 organizations -- according to the Nobel Peace Prize website. Another British bookmaker, William Hill, which put Thunberg at odds of 8/13, said Wednesday that 96% of Nobel Peace Prize bets had been placed on Thunberg. Last year's Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to former ISIS sex slave Nadia Murad and Congolese doctor Denis Mukwege "for their efforts to end the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war and armed conflict."
