Metro Detroit expected to see more rain this week

The cloudy, mild and somewhat soggy weather around the holiday continues for a little bit longer. This before cooler temperatures and maybe some snow return next week.

More showers are expected to move through tonight. This rain will be scattered in coverage, with chances being best east of I-75. That being said most everyone will see a little something, with the steadier rain coming the further east you go towards the lakes. On top of the rain, some spots may see reduced visibility because of some fog and drizzle. Temperatures stay on the mild side tonight, as most of us hang in the 40s for lows.

Wednesday and Thursday

A few showers hang around Wednesday morning, but we should dry out in the afternoon. The clouds hang tough though -- with perhaps a few of us getting a few breaks of sun. Highs Wednesday will only be in the upper 40s. This is well above normal for this time of the year -- but with a wind out of the north-northwest, temperatures only climb a few degrees.

More rain moves in Thursday, and some even linger into the first half of Friday. It won’t be a washout these days, but you’ll need the umbrella both days.

Weekend and next week

The weekend is cooler with highs in the upper 30s and lower 40s, but the bigger story this weekend is the chance for rain and snow on Sunday, which is also New Year’s Eve. Long-range data is hinting at this starting off as light rain, then changing to snow in the afternoon and evening. It’s a little too far out to talk specifics in terms of snow adding up, but there are some signs that we could see a light accumulation. Stay tuned for that!

To start the new year, we’re looking mainly dry but cooler. Highs Monday and Tuesday are back in the middle to upper 30s.
