A winter storm watch will take effect Sunday night for several Michigan counties.
The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids is forecasting up to 12 inches of snow along the coast of Lake Michigan, for the following counties:
- Allegan
- Berrien
- Cass
- Mason
- Muskegon
- Oceana
- Ottawa
- Van Buren
The winter storm watch goes through Monday night.
“Lake effect snow will intensify tonight through Monday morning. Expect lake effect snow to continue Monday into Tuesday morning. Snowfall will vary widely across counties due to nature of lake effect snow. Amounts will vary with a widespread 1 to 4 inches and Localized 8-12+ inches in a region West of Kalamazoo and south of Holland. Expect impacts to affect I-94 and I-196 through the above regions. main impacts will be snow covered roads, limited visibility and slowed travel speeds.” -- NWS Grand Rapids
Barry, Kalamazoo and Calhoun counties are under a winter weather advisory, with 1-4 inches of snow expected.
In Metro Detroit, snow showers are expected, but no major accumulation is forecasted.
The Upper Peninsula was bracing for nearly two feet of snow from a weekend winter storm. More snow is expected in parts of the U.P. through Monday.
