DETROIT – The timeline is coming into clearer focus on when Metro Detroit’s wintry mix will change to snow, and when that snow will end.
As of 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23, 2024, Southeast Michigan is seeing a mix of rain, snow, and sleet. That is expected to continue for a couple more hours.
Closer to 6 p.m., most of the precipitation should transition over to snow. Some rain and mixture might continue for areas farther to the south.
The snowfall will continue through Monday evening and taper off after 9-10 p.m.
Metro Detroit will eventually dry out overnight.
Snow accumulation is likely for most of the area -- from a half-inch to near 3 inches in the Thumb. A glaze might form in the afternoon before snow starts, which would cause slick road conditions.
