A 4Warn Weather Alert has been declared for Friday afternoon and evening.
Winter Weather Advisory
A winter weather advisory covers all of Southeast Michigan until 1 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11. The snow will be most intense through 9 p.m. and cause potential disruptions for the afternoon and evening commute.
Snow rates up to a quarter-inch per hour will be possible during the commute, which will result in around an inch of snow by 6 p.m. The snow will be less intense after 9 p.m., and it will taper off from west to east after midnight.
Early morning snow totals will be in the two- to four-inch range for most of Southeast Michigan.
While the snow totals are not uncommon for a snow event in Southeast Michigan, the timing of the snow will create headaches and potentially hazardous conditions. Roads may become slushy and slippery.
Slow down, allow extra time, and increase distance from other vehicles.
When clearing snow, it is recommended to dress warmly. Friday’s temperatures will peak in the mid-20s, and wind chill values will be in the teens. Overnight temperatures into Saturday morning will fall to around 20 degrees.
This Weekend
Saturday will be mostly cloudy with highs around 30 degrees and lows in the teens to 20 degrees. Then, expect a cloudy Sunday with highs around 30 degrees.
We could see the arrival of more light snow Sunday night.
Arctic Air
Next week, the arctic air will flow over the Great Lakes and make weather headlines.
