More snow and cold weather is on the way to Metro Detroit.
After picking up two- to four-inches in most of Southeast Michigan by early Saturday morning, the region saw peaks of sunshine and a few scattered lake-effect snow showers in the afternoon.
Saturday night will be cloudy with lows around 20 degrees. Winds will be out of the southwest around 5 mph.
A few flurries will be possible Sunday morning, but the better chance of snow showers will be in the afternoon and evening as a low-pressure system moves across the Great Lakes. A fresh dusting of snow is possible. Highs will be around 30 degrees. Southerly winds will be 6 to 12 mph with gusts up to 20 mph.
The snow showers will continue into Sunday night, which could lead to slick roads. Besides a few lingering flurries, most snow showers should move east of Southeast Michigan by 1 a.m. Lows will be in the lower to mid 20s. Winds will be out of the south-southwest around 10 mph.
A colder air mass will push into Southeast Michigan on Monday. It will be cloudy with a chance of lake-effect snow showers as winds become westerly. Highs will be in the mid 20s.
A reinforcement of cold air will arrive for late Monday. Lows will be in the teens.
Tuesday’s highs will only be in the teens for most of Southeast Michigan. The unfrozen, warmer Great Lakes will moderate the air temperatures. This will prevent Metro Detroiters from feeling the brunt of the cold air that will flow into the northern U.S. More lake-effect snow showers will be possible Tuesday.
Temperatures will rebound into the 30s for the end of the week, which will return temperatures to average for January.
